Franschoek | Afrique Verte
The staircase system designed by Cobute has been selected for the construction of the the luxurious residential units of eco homes at Afrique Verte in Franschoek. This is an eco estate developed by Surrey Holmes Properties; the estate takes a holistic approach in minimising its residents' impact on the environment.
Eco Homes at Afrique Verte
The Eco Homes at Afrique Verte have been designed and built with a responsible approach to natural resources; each plot has been fitted with water-wise boreholes and a Solar Power system, installed by MLT Power. The design favours sustainable solutions as well as elevating community living, with the creation of mesmerising communal spaces like the organic veggie garden and a natural pool.
Cobute Stairs
The patented system by Cobute for stairs was originally designed by combining the beam and decking solutions. The elements arrive on site ready to be installed, with the principal reinforcement element cast in at the factory, dramatically reducing room for mistake.
The system consists of four elements:

The tread is cast on site, when the shell is filled with concrete. The Cobute stair does not only offer structural integrity, but its intuitive installation favours the upskilling of the construction team on site while ensuring effective time management.
Staircase finishing at Afrique Verte
The Cobute staircase builds a solid structure that can be finished according to architect’s specs - from its brutal look to tiled or plastered and screeded. At Afrique Verte, the stair’s finish adds a unique element to the homes, designed drawing inspiration from combining Franschhoek Vernacular with Italian high-end simplicity.
